Installing Endrov

From Endrov

(Redirected from Installing EV)

Basic Steps

MacOS X

The software is tested once on a while on OSX 10.6 with the latest upgrades to Java. We think anything after, including 10.4 will do. Just download the zip-file, double-click it to expand the content, open the created directory and double-click Endrov. You can put the directory anywhere on your disk; it does not have to be in the Applications folder.

If your mac is getting old (PowerPC), consider installing Linux on it instead. Since Apple no longer updates Java on these, this will likely be the future solution.

Windows

Check that you have a recent version of Java. Download the zip-file (the JDK, not JRE, is recommended), double-click it to expand the content, open the created directory and double-click endrov.exe or startEndrov.jar. You can put the directory anywhere on your disk. Optionally create a shortcut to endrov.exe.

Other

If you are willing to help us make Endrov work on other platforms, let us know.

Dependencies

Java runtime

You need Java 1.5+. The JRE should be sufficient unless you wish to modify the source, in that case get the JDK.

Installation issues

We have noticed nasty bugs in Apple file sharing that causes the entire imagesets to accumulate in memory. We recommend that you drop AFS and instead get SSHFS. It has the advantage of working better over the internet in case you want to set up an image server and access it from home. If you want to know details, get in contact.

Files

After unpacking, these are the interesting files (.app-files are Mac binaries, use .jar on other platforms):

  • Endrov.app, startEndrov.jar, endrov.exe: Start the graphical user interface for Endrov.
  • util/: Various pieces of code using Endrov as a library. Consider these examples rather than ready-to-be-used programs.
  • docs/: Minimalistic documentation. This site is the main source of information.
  • libs/: Java libraries. If you need to update any jar-files, they go in here.
  • endrov/: Source code and binaries for all plugins, including the Endrov core.
